In colder climates, marina or dock de-icers can be an essential investment. While it doesn't move fast, pack ice can exert tremendous forces on docks, boats stored in the water and other waterside infrastructure. Most de-icers can be configured to clear a circular area, or an elongated ellipse. Suspended under a boat or dock slip, this can keep ice from encroaching. Aimed at pilings, the de-icer can help avert ice jacking and floated horizontally in front of a dock or marina, it can create a clear zone that relieves the crushing pressure before it turns a dock to toothpicks.
