Dock & Marina De-Icers
Marina & Dock De-Icers
In colder climates, marina or dock de-icers can be an essential investment. While it doesn't move fast, pack ice can exert tremendous forces on docks, boats stored in the water and other waterside infrastructure. When you add changing water levels from tides, storms or human control, ice can literally jack pilings out of the bottom. Fortunately, a good in-water dock de-icer can provide a lot of protection from this type of damage. In-water de-icers work by drawing warmer water from below the surface, keeping an area free of ice. Most de-icers can be configured to clear a circular area, or an elongated ellipse. Suspended under a boat or dock slip, this can keep ice from encroaching. Aimed at pilings, the de-icer can help avert ice jacking and floated horizontally in front of a dock or marina, it can create a clear zone that relieves the crushing pressure before it turns a dock to toothpicks.
In-water de-icers can also be used to keep water clear for wildlife or livestock. Whether you're interested in attracting waterfowl, or want to keep a ready watering hole open, a de-icer may be your best option.
