Ice Eater or Dock De-icer?

Shop for a Dock De-icer or Ice Eater

Dock de-icers are not as universally known in the boating world as boat covers. Just say the word "boat cover" and pretty much any boater in North America will know what you're talking about. Dock de-icers are a bit more challenging because there are a number of different things to call them.

One of the most popular terms is Ice Eater.  It is often used generically, but it is the brand name of a line of in-water dock de-icers produced by Power House.  It’s kind of like saying Band-Aid when you are asking for an adhesive bandage. Dock de-icer is probably the most descriptive term as many of these items are used to protect docks and boat houses from ice damage.  Of course even that can’t be simple as we’ve seen it spelled as dock deicer and even dock d-icer.

Whatever you call it, we carry Kasco Marine De-icers and Power House Ice Eaters, the two top brands on the market.  Both lines consist of a powerful, waterproof electric motor driving a specially designed to pull warmer water from the depths and circulate it to the surface where the relative warmth and the agitation serve to melt surface ice.  Located under a dock or in front of a boat house, the clear water will protect the structure from being frozen into the lake ice and damaged as the ice moves.

While both brands perform the same function,  There are a few difference between the two.  In general, Kasco De-icers are simpler and more durable under hard use, while the Power House Ice Eater comes with more variations and options that make it more configurable to each job’s specific needs.  For more information on the features of each model, visit "Brand Comparison of Dock De-icers" or check out more Details on Kasco De-icers or Power House Ice Eater Product Details.
