Deicer Thermostats for Energy Efficiency

Deicer thermostats provide an inexpensive way to reduce your energy consumption while using a
dock deicer. Thermostats are installed in-line and control power to your deicer based on air temperature, turning the unit off when its not needed to maximize energy conservation and reduce costly electric bills.
Deicer Thermostat Operation:
Deicer thermostats plug into a standard 120v outlet and let you set an air temperature setting. When the air temperature drops below the set level the thermostat will turn the unit on. The thermostat will then turn the deicer off again when temperatures rise above the set level. Plan to install your thermostat where it will be exposed to outside air temperatures, but preferably in a place where it will be sheltered from rain and ice. Each thermostat is designed to operate only one deicer unit.
Deicer Thermostat Maintenance:
-
Use a power source with ground fault interruption. This safety feature can alert you to electrical leaks in the equipment. Check the GFI upon
installation, re-installation, and on a regular monthly basis.
-
Observe your equipment on a regular basis for variation in performance. If it is performing poorly, disconnect it from the power source, remove clogs and debris from the motor, and inspect the propeller for damage.
-
Clean your system with a power washer at least once per season to reduce calcium and algae buildup.
Have your unit serviced by the factory or an authorized repair service every three years.
Replace the
zinc anode if reduced to half the original size or if coated in a white crust.
Thermostat for 220v De-icers
The stock thermostats offered for de-icers are for 115v systems. If you are running a 220v unit, your options are limited. Powerhouse offers a fixed temperature 220v thermostat set for fresh water, and one set for salt water applications. These are special order and are built to order, typically requiring 2 days to manufacture. If you need a 220v thermostat, please contact our
customer service department.
